The Iconography of Lord Shiva:
Depicted with ash smeared on his body, a serpent around his neck, and the crescent moon adorning his matted hair, Lord Shiva’s iconic representation reflects his mystical attributes. He is often seen holding a trident (Trishul) and sitting in deep meditation atop the Himalayas. Lord Shiva’s blue throat, resulting from consuming the poison during the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan), further adds to his divine allure.
The Dance of Destruction – Tandava:
Lord Shiva is renowned for his cosmic dance, the “Tandava,” which symbolizes the rhythmic cycle of creation, preservation, and destruction. In the Tandava, he gracefully dances while balancing the forces of good and evil, representing the cyclical nature of existence. It is said that his dance creates and sustains the universe, and the ending of his dance signifies the eventual dissolution of the cosmos.
